Today we celebrate 1,000,000 online appointments scheduled with TimeCenter scheduling software. Click on the image to see amazing appointment statistics in super-duper-big size.

Conclusion
65% of all appointments made online are made by women. This was concluded by analyzing 1.000.000 appointments made through TimeCenter online appointment scheduling. In particular, appointments with beauty salons and veterinarians are almost completely dominated by women.

Female business owners are more likely to schedule appointments online
Women entrepreneurs are more interested in online booking than men, since 67% of all businesses that schedule appointments online are run by women. These businesses often offer services aimed at women, such as nail extensions, hair extensions and hair removal. This in turn leads to more women than men booking online.

So what does men book?
Out of all naprapaths that offer online scheduling, half are men. Even in this case, there are more women who book - 6 out of 10 are women. Among massage therapists, it is a completely different representation of genders, only every fourth man is a massage therapist. Roughly the same as the average, 68% of massage therapy sessions are booked by women. Only 15% of hairdressers that accept online reservations are men, but as many as 76% of the customers are women.

At beauty salons, 9 of 10 appointments are made by a woman, and 4 out of 5 who bring the dog to the vet is a woman. An equal share can be found in a yoga class.

Where's the genders equal?
One category that is very gender neutral is sports, where the same amount of appointments are made by men and women. Examples include online booking for tennis, golf and personal trainers. The most masculine service by far is coaching for cycling and triathlon, that are booked to 79% of men.

"Regardless of gender, 100% of our users have realized how easy and convenient it is to accept appointments online. One million appointments is a very strong indication that online scheduling is the future and the number will continue to grow rapidly."

-Niclas Marie, founder of TimeCenter

A huge thank you to all our customers for making this possible!
Thanks to amazing artist Gerardo Obieta, who made this beautiful infographic.
I know a lot of you guys drool by the mere thought of the MacBook Air. But yet you won't buy one, cause you firmly believe that any day now, Apple will launch the new smaller, slimmer, lighter MacBook Air, 2010 model with an 11.6-inch display.

Here's my ideas of what it will look like, compared to it's bigger brother, along with some tech specs and speculations. By the way, did you notice that the old 13.3-inch MacBook Air looks like a huge freaking monster compared to the new one!?

The keyboard looks as big as before!
To be able to shrink the
body, and still keep the full size keyboard intact some of the sexy
bezel had to go. But not too much, we wouldn't want it too rough.

Oh... the touchpad looks sexy!
The
glass touchpad we all love from the latest generation of MacBooks is
finally here with a size as big as 1.6" x 1.0" (41 mm x 25 mm).

The screen is smaller, but is it brighter?
Of
course. The MacBook Air now has the same LED backlit glossy screen as
the MacBooks and is significantly brighter than the previous MacBook
Air.

Is it really possible to fit all the electronics in there?
That
was probably what everyone was saying when MacBook Air was first
launched. Components are simply getting smaller and smaller, and Apple
manages to find the slimmest to fit into the MacBook Air. For example,
Seagate has a harddrive that is 7mm thick
(0.28 inch). To make it fit in this design, the screen needs to be
really thin. Wait, this sounds almost impossible. But if anyone can do
it, it's Apple!

What are the tech specs?

New MacBook Air 11.6"

Old MacBook Air 13.3"

0.1-0.45 inch (0.25-1.14 cm)

0.16-0.76 inch (0.4-1.94 cm)

Width

11.2 inches (28.5 cm)

12.8 inches (32.5 cm)

Depth

7.6 inches (19.5 cm)

8.94 inches (22.7 cm)

Weight

2.6 pounds (1.18 kg)

3.0 pounds (1.36 kg)

CPU

2.93 GHz (Intel Core i3)

2.13 GHz (Intel Core 2 Duo)

Hard drive

256 GB SSD

128 GB SSD drive

Memory

4 GB

2 GB

Graphics

Intel HD Graphics

GeForce 9400M (256 Mb)

Display

11.6" (1024 x 640)

13.3" (1280 x 800)

Price

$1299

$1499

Is this fake?
No, but it's a photoshopped image and some
tech specs gathered from speculations all over the net. If all the
rumors that it will be much cheaper should come true, then I think you'd
have to forget about the 256 GB SSD, which seems to cost at least $500.
But at least they made it $200 cheaper!

Man, I need a bigger screen, 15 USB-ports, a DVD-drive and 32 GB of RAM!
That's
what the MacBook Pro is for. The MacBook Air is an ultra portable
netbook. It's not supposed to do everything the MacBook Pro does. It's
impossible to cram everything into this sexy aluminum skin.

The MacBook Air is dead. Long live the MacBook Air!
The
power users are the reason why there won't be a new upgraded 13.3"
MacBook Air. If you want a bigger and stronger computer, get a MacBook
Pro. But if you want have the sexiest netbook in the hood, go give the
new, slim 11.6" MacBook Air a test drive. You'll absolutely love it!

The old, big and fat 13.3" MacBook Air is history.

What exactly is attraction marketing and why is it so effective? Attraction marketing is the concept of successfully pre-selling a customer without pushing or convincing, by conveying a benefit or advantage of your product or service. When done correctly, your customers will already have developed a level of trust prior to receiving your product or service and will most likely purchase from you.

Show the benefits through your website

One of the easiest ways to apply attraction marketing is through your website. While most business owners host a website that is more like an online brochure than anything else, those that implement attracting marketing find themselves achieving a higher level of success in business. Take advantage of your online real estate by creating pages that explain the fundamentals of your product or service and the problems it can solve or remedy. Identify their frustrations and speak about your ability and success in being a valuable resource in your community.

Get your clients talking about you

Another great attraction marketing tool is to utilize social proof. Social proof is great because it allows the potential customer to see firsthand the comments and ideas that others have about your business. Social proof is usually conveyed through testimonials or comments on your blog or website. It's one thing to speak highly of your own product or service, but it's an entirely different and extremely powerful marketing tool when others are speaking highly of you. Make sure you are utilizing this form of marketing whenever you can.

Become a leader by offering solutions
Thinking like a leader and behaving like one is another aspect of attraction marketing. Presenting yourself as a leader or expert allows you the opportunity to attract a higher level of business. Make sure that you are always approaching your marketing from a point of offering a beneficial outcome or a unique problem to solve. Leaders have all the solutions and answers! Psychologically we are attracted to leaders and will naturally gravitate towards such a person. Take advantage of your expertise in your field and show leadership.

Attraction marketing works like magic by magnetically pulling potential customers towards you and your business. When you start thinking and focusing on your target customer and what it is they truly need, you will begin to see a huge shift in your business. If you aren't yet marketing your business from an attraction perspective, you are leaving thousands of potential dollars on the table. Take the extra time to make sure you are marketing to your potential audience with grace, dignity and from a level of leadership. Make sure you express your abilities effectively and you will no doubt be successful!

When starting your business, one of the most important aspects is the ability to brand yourself effectively. When done correctly, branding separates you from the competition in a way that will undoubtedly launch you towards success. Each and every successful business has efficiently conveyed their unique trademark or brand to their customer base, thus attracting customers on a consistent and regular basis. And while many people may think of a symbol or logo when they hear the term "branding", it is in fact so much more than that.

Branding is truly a feeling and an experience conveyed through your marketing materials, websites, communication and services you provide to your customers. Create and cultivate an effective branding strategy early on to successfully attract your ideal customer. Here are 5 simple steps I recommend you exercise to get started in branding yourself.

1. Have a Unique Vision or Mission
This is the most important aspect in branding. Each business must stand for something in order to remain unique in the marketplace. The biggest threat in business is no doubt competition. But if you brand yourself correctly, with a true vision that shows you offer your services in a unique special way, you will naturally attract customers. Think about your vision, or ways that you and your services are unique to your customer and build on that. Do you specialize in something special? Do you offer your services in a unique approach? We all have something unique to offer in business. Convey this effectively and it will pay off.

2. Your Image
Image is very important as it shows a certain level of professionalism in conveying your vision. Creating a bold and visually appealing logo is an important part of your image. Make sure you place your logo on all of your marketing materials including your business cards, brochures, website etc. The interior decorating of your place of business is extremely important in communicating your brand as well. The way you dress and the cleanliness of your office is one of the most important decisions you will make. Customers will feel a sense of confidence towards you when you dress professionally, decorate professionally and provide a pristine, clean office environment.

3. Unique Selling Proposition (USP)
Another very important factor in branding your business, a USP conveys a direct statement about your business to the marketplace. You want your USP to make a specific claim such as "buy our service and get this benefit". You also want to make sure that your USP is unique and has not been used within your marketplace before. Also, make sure your offer is so strong that it has the ability to pull people towards you. A great example of a well know USP is "You get fresh, hot pizza delivered to your door in 30 minutes or less -- or it's free." Domino's Pizza.

4. Consistency
Being consistent in business is one of the main reasons a customer will continue seeing you. Not being consistent truly can break your business. Customers come to expect certain things from you when doing business and you must deliver each and every time. Make sure everything you do flows in a consistent manner. From your marketing pieces, your phone etiquette, the service you provide and the way you treat each customer, every single moment your customer interacts with you needs to always be reliable and consistent. The moment you start letting this slide, your customer will notice. Make sure your business always runs consistently and delivers the finest experience.

5. Define Your Target Market
This is one of the key factors in branding. Without customers you don't have a business. Figure out your target market by looking at what unique qualities you bring to the table and what unique problems you are able to solve. Your target market or ideal customer is one who needs you for an issue or problem they are having. Because you are uniquely qualified to solve people's problems and/or eliminate pain in their life, target those people specifically. For instance, suppose you are a massage therapist that specializes in pain management. Targeting a pregnant woman with low back pain through your marketing efforts will attract those specific clients to you like a magnet. Target marketing is extremely important in attracting your ideal client and developing your brand.

Your brand lives in the minds and hearts of each of your customers. It is the sum of each aspect of your business carefully packaged and delivered. Effectively branding yourself will take you to great places in business. Do not overlook this important factor in building your business. Taking the time to cultivate this will surely launch your business to great heights!

About the author

We just finished the TimeCenter customer survey of 2010 and we got a lot of helpful feedback and suggestions from you, our beloved customers. Here is a summary of the survey questions and answers, and also some interesting quotes from our customers.

Have you seen an increase in appointments since you started using TimeCenter?
The most amazing fact is that 4 out of 5 businesses get more appointments now than before they had TimeCenter. The chart below shows that a third of those have a LOT more appointments than before. That's really great news, proving that online scheduling actually makes you more money!

How did you handle appointment scheduling before TimeCenter, and what were the major challenges you faced?

A few businesses used TimeCenter right from the start, which we think is
awesome. But for the others, there were a lot of reasons to switch to online appointment scheduling.

Most businesses used to receive appointments by phone, and wrote them down in an appointment book. The challenge with this is that they were hard to reach, since most of them don't answer their phone during an appointment. Many believe that this made them miss out on several appointments.

Booking in an appointment book, was clumsy and time consuming.
Angela Eklöw, Angelas Beauty Base

I had to set aside time each day to call clients who wanted to book or reschedule.
Carl Linde, Carpus Massage

Now I can exercise, work and get appointments at the same time.
Karin Albiner, Naprapath

Many hours each week was being spent on phoning clients who left a message on the answering machine. This takes a lot of time at the end of each day, and some makes calls to their clients when they're on a break, making it hard to really relax. Several business owners also felt the need to answer the phone and take appointments when at home with their family, which causes stress.

Some were half way to online scheduling by using e-mail to accept appointments. The biggest challenges with this were that the clients didn't get a confirmation right away, and if it took too long, the client sometimes made an appointment with a competitor.

For the businesses with several staff members, there were a lot of papers everywhere, and trying to assist each other with making appointments often led to double bookings and confusion.

Another challenge that was mentioned was no shows. The clients simply forgot about the appointment. Several business owners thinks it difficult to charge for the missed appointment, with the risk of the client never showing up again.

How has TimeCenter helped your business?

They threw out the appointment book and shut off their phone. They started sending text messages to clients who made appointments. What happened next?

Thanks to the text reminders sent to the clients cell phones, many businesses have noticed that they have much less no shows. The ability for the business owners to receive text messages when they get new appointments is also appreciated.

Several of our customers, especially beauty salons say that they get a lot more customers and appointments. They think it's because the clients have so much services to choose from. Services that they didn't know existed when booking by phone.

TimeCenter means everything for me! My customers just love it and as I am self employed, I could not do without it.
Matilda Klingener, Studio 34

I get 5-6 new clients each week, and nobody misses their appointment thanks to the text reminders.
Pernilla Svensson, Soleus Massage & Health

TimeCenter saved me a lot of time and frustration by decreasing my
calls and call backs by 75%.
Marcia Male, Wilson Acupuncture and Healing Arts Center

The self-employed companies says that it's a great relief, now that the phone rings less. Businesses that have a receptionist have noticed that the receptionist's work load is greatly reduced.

Another interesting point is that very much time was previously wasted in collecting the client's contact information, which had to be done manually. Saving all of this in a database really helped a lot and made the appointment booking more efficient.

The biggest benefit that most business owner mentioned is that their clients can make appointments whenever they feel like it, regardless of whether they're working, they're on a break or in bed at home sleeping.

Why did you choose TimeCenter?
The benefits of online scheduling are pretty obvious, but why do our customers choose TimeCenter? There are several appointment scheduling services to choose from. What makes us so special?

The main reason mentioned by many of the respondants is that it's really easy to use. They think it's user friendly, and their clients thinks it's easy to make an appointment. Great! This was and still is the cornerstone of the development of TimeCenter.

We also got a lot of comments that TimeCenter has a very good price, and the fact that there were no starting fee was appreciated.

Less time spent on the phone doing bookings.
Jessica Abegg, Sanctuary Massage & Wellness

Very easy to use from both therapist and user point of view. Nice to
look at.
Simone Bradshaw Clinical Hypnotherapist

My clients think that the service is very good. My online schedule haven't been down a single minute in 15 months of use.
Erik Olsson, Naprapath

Many of our customers think that we have a quick and very helpful support, even before buying a subscription. We appreciate these comments, because we put a lot of effort in helping each and everyone, even if it means explaining why TimeCenter might not be suited for them.

A lot of our customers switched to us from a competitor. Either because they were too expensive, too hard to use, or that their service had a lot of technical problems. One user also noted that TimeCenter has less features, which they prefer from other over-complicated and feature-flooded services.

One respondent made us raise our eyebrows. He said he chose us because he liked our name. "It makes sense and sounds professional". Well thank you! :)

Have you recommended TimeCenter to anyone?
It's great to have a community of loyal users, and knowing that you
recommend us to your friends, is a confirmation that TimeCenter is
really good. We're very happy to hear that 90% of our users have recommended
TimeCenter to a friend or collegue. We're even more happy reading how they described it:

An effective time efficient solution to booking appointments. Like having
your own receptionist for less money and hassle.
Beth Rogerson

customer service!
Jessica Abegg, Sanctuary Massage & Wellness

Dean Stewart Photography

Anything else you would like to share with us? We'd love to hear your feedback.
As most online services, we get a lot of feature requests each week. We try to keep TimeCenter as simple as possible, and create only the features that are useful for everyone and are really good.

One of the most requested features is what could be called My calendar. A button/link somewhere to access your calendar in one click. This is a really good idea. We admit that it might require a few extra clicks to reach your calendar in some situations.

Many users appreciate the ability to sync with iPhone. Since you can't make appointments directly from the calendar in iPhone, some have shown an interest in an iPhone app, which basically is a stripped version of the normal TimeCenter, but better suited to the small screens of mobile devices. We like this a lot, and this will probably come sometime in a not too distant future.

For those of you working with events, like Yoga or other events where several people meet at once, there were some requests. One is to make it easier to send an e-mail or text message to everyone signed up for an event. It's a good idea, and we'll probably make it easier to handle event registrations in the future.

Some interesting questions and answers from one of our customers

How did you handle appointment scheduling before TimeCenter, and what were the major challenges you faced?
Clients called me to schedule appointments (playing phone tag) and I had to hire someone to call to remind them of their appointments.

How has TimeCenter helped your business?
Clients miss fewer appointments and really appreciate the reminders they receive. Also, clients can schedule their own appointments and don't have to wait for me to return their calls.

Why did you choose TimeCenter?
Convenience and efficiency.
This is all really cool, but did i win?
If you've been reading this far, you're probably wondering who the lucky winner of the 12 month TimeCenter subscription is. All survey respondants were put together in a bowl. We shook it around, and out came a note with a name on. The lucky winner is Karins Nature clinic from Sweden. Congratulations!

TimeCenter in the future
Our vision is to make TimeCenter easier, faster and more fun to use.

The fantasy
So what if we use all of our 10 fingers to interact with computers? Here is the breathtaking interface from the movie Minority Report from 2002, directed by Steven Spielberg.

iPhone and iPad are just the start. This is probably closer to the future multi-touch interface you will be using at home. It's a concept made by Xerox, that brought us the graphical user interface in the first place.
I found a really cool website that searches the internet using an image. It's like Google, but instead of typing text, you upload an image. So you can do stuff like:

Find the same image but in bigger size

Find out who or what exactly is in the picture

See how the image is used

See similar versions of it

Try Tineye with your favorite image and see what it finds!
Here's the recipe for the delightful snack to enjoy while watching.

If you're a kitchen wizard, make this as it happens. You'll impress us!
For all you normal Apple geeks, here is how you can easily make this nice Apple dessert:

1. Peel three apples and cut into thin slices
2. Put them in a oven safe bowl and add sugar and cinnamon (As much as you want!)
3. Mix it around and put slices of butter on top
4. Bake it in the top of the oven oven for 10 minutes at 250°C (480 °F)
5. Enjoy with some icecream or whipped cream!

Don't burn yourself on the hot Apples and don't spill any on your brand new iPad!

Wait a minute, let's call this desert the iPie! ;)

I made a slight mistake and sent out a Swedish version of the email to everybody, including our English friends.

Now this was an honest mistake, but I was mad at myself for making it. So I found out a way to make it all better.

Now, we have a new policy. Every time something goes wrong, the staff member responsible has to donate 500kr (about $70) to charity. I chose the Red Cross and their Haiti effort.

Now when something goes wrong, it's great for the world!
